PostHeaderIcon Wedding Photography Has Become an Art

Have you ever gone to your friend’s house and find that there are all kinds of pictures from their wedding that are beautifully displayed for the whole world to see?  Do you spend time looking at these wedding photos?  For many couples, displaying their favorite pictures from their wedding are becoming not only a trend, but a really nice form of art.  Many times, you will find these pictures in the master bedroom or an office, but these wedding photography pictures are some of the couple’s most treasured pictures.

That being said, you probably know the importance of wedding photography and how it’s really important to look at album packages, but you should also consider what else comes with the package.  Your wedding photography package should include several displayable pictures that you and your spouse can keep, and a few to give away.  You should be able to pick the pictures, and the prices will range by size, but you should know that your parents and your spouse’s parents would at the very least like a picture of your wedding that they can display.

If your wedding photography package doesn’t include individual pictures, you may want to ask your wedding photographer if you can get a couple for a cut price, as individual photos can always be made, but sometimes cost extra.  If you are considering getting a lot of extra pictures from your wedding photography album or proofs, then you might want to pay for a set amount to begin with.

Prices on wedding photography pictures individually can range, but they can usually wind up costing you a pretty penny if you don’t incorporate them into your package, so you should talk to your wedding photographer about special pricing.  If you know that you will be requesting a certain number of photos from your wedding photography album, you should consider paying for them up front and see if you can get a discount on them.

This will also help to simplify things, as when you are picking the photos that you would like to use in your wedding album, you can also choose the pictures you want to be prepared individually.  You will then receive everything at the same time and can use your individual wedding pictures for display or gifts.

Another way that many people  are trying to get their wedding pictures for less money is to have them reprinted from the proofs or by using the online proofs that have been downloaded and saved to a computer.  You should be careful of doing this, as some of the online images will be encoded so that you aren’t able to reproduce them and some of the hard proofs have copyright information on them and cannot be reproduced except with permission from the wedding photographer himself.  So, unless you are really good with photo editing programs and want to scan your proofs into your computer, it’s probably best if you just eat the cost and have at least one or two wedding photos printed for display purposes and gifts.

You’ve been dreaming of your wedding day for years and planning it since forever.  It’s one of the most important days of your life and you’ll cherish your memories.  While the memories of your dream wedding will gradually fade, your wedding pictures will live on.  Here are a few tips to make sure your wedding pictures are exactly what you dreamed they would be.

Before hiring a wedding photographer I always recommend that brides and grooms take a look around the web and understand the difference in the main styles of wedding photography.  Become an educated consumer.  If you don’t know what you want, then how can any wedding photographer or vendor give it to you?  If you don’t know, then they don’t know, and that’s the recipe for a wedding disaster.  Remember, this is your wedding and you want your pictures to look the way you want them to look.  The question is “do you know what you want?”  In general you could break wedding photography into a few “popular” styles like traditional, portrait or photojournalism.

After looking around the web for a few hours and coming up with some example for me to look at, most brides will say that they want their wedding images to be taken in the photojournalism style.  Most brides don’t want old fashioned portraits taken and they don’t want cliché pictures either.  However, there’s another style of wedding photography that’s popping its head up and becoming very trendy – posed photojournalism.  Huh?  Do those words even go together?  Yep.  As Doug Gordon would jokingly say, “that’s an oxymoron”.  Well, he’s right – it is.  However, it’s also what most brides want and they don’t even know it.  Here’s why.

Posed photojournalism makes life easier for the bride and groom, makes the pictures better, and gives you the wedding pictures you’ve dreamed of since you were a little girl.   Most brides and grooms aren’t professional models and have no experience posing in front of the camera.  How can you be expected to know how to pose for your wedding pictures?  It’s simple – you can’t.  It takes practice (that’ll be another posting on why practice or “engagement” pictures are taken).  By getting together with a photographer who’s playful and fun and who’ll do anything to get you great wedding pictures, you’ll be on the right path to great images.  Your wedding photographer should be there to help you and make sure that your pictures turn out perfect.  Your job is to look beautiful, be happy, and get married.  My job is to document your wedding day and make sure that you look your best while I’m doing it.

You don’t need to worry about the little things – like is your hand in the right position or do you have a hair out of place.  Or, is your gown beautifully spread out and your delicate veil showing?  By watching carefully before the picture is taken and fixing or “posing” anything that will improve your wedding picture, you’ll have much better wedding images.  Remember, by practicing “posed photojournalism” with your wedding photographer (on your practice engagement shoot), you can relax on your wedding day and be sure your images will look real and flow naturally.  You’ll think they came right out of “The Knot”.  Ah, perfection.

PostHeaderIcon Good Wedding Photography Sites Throughout Philadelphia

For wedding photography, Philadelphia is probably the best city in the country. It’s urban, steeped in history and culture, filled with gardens and parks and dubbed the “city of love” for a reason. For five of the city’s best wedding photography locations, keep reading.

Longwood Gardens (longwoodgardens.org)

It’s hard to go wrong at Longwood Gardens, the grounds are massive, but also pristine and positively stunning. With water fountains, flowers and beautiful foliage, the Gardens make for an incredible backdrop setting for your Philadelphia wedding photos.

However, before you arrive at the Longwood gates with your wedding party, photographer and lights in tow, you should know the Gardens do allow photography, but there are policies you must follow. All attendees are required to pay the entrance fee, and no tripods or lights can be used at any time. You may also be required to sign a permission form saying the photos are for personal, not commercial, use.

LOVE Park

What could be more romantic than photos taken under the infamous LOVE statue in Philadelphia’s Love Park? Officially, the park is named JFK Plaza, but is lovingly referred to as LOVE Park thanks to the infamous Robert Indiana LOVE sculpture overlooking the park in Philadelphia’s city center.

It’s free to take photos in LOVE Park, but be prepared to compete with other wedding parties, especially if you’re shooting on a busy June Saturday. To avoid disappointment, set aside some extra photography time in case you run into another wedding.

Bartram’s Garden

Bartram’s Gardens are the country’s oldest public gardens, and the setting is both romantic and idyllic. With its stone courtyard, historical buildings and beautiful garden setting – it’s a great spot for wedding photography. Philadelphia photographers should know the location well.

However, shooting at Bartram’s isn’t cheap or easy. Unless your wedding is already booked at the venue, you may have to reserve around a wedding. Regardless, you can expect to pay between 0 and 0 per hour for photographing at the space.

The Steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art

As the major focus of Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is massive and a true landmark of the city. For those looking for a real taste of Philadelphia in their wedding photos, this could be it.

The steps are massive and high, while the eight pillars are a stunning backdrop. You may recognize the popular photo setting from the Rocky movies as the steps that Rocky Balboa climbed during his training. Keep in mind that wedding parties require a per hour permit from the Fairmount Park Commission to shoot on the location.

Rittenhouse Square

Smack dab in the middle of Center City, Rittenhouse Square is both a convenient and beautiful spot for wedding pictures. Philadelphia residents will instantly recognize the urban park’s green setting and natural beauty. The best part? You don’t need a permit to shoot and you gain the attractiveness of the city at the same time.
